Commerciality is becoming increasingly important to employers. In addition to a strong academic background, graduates need to be equipped with a range of core competencies and sounds commercial acumen. It has also been recognised that there is a gap between what graduates expect and what employers need.

Our aim is to bridge this gap and help students develop their skills and market their capabilities to potential employers more effectively.

The Diploma in Commerciality has been designed with input from top employers to help graduates make the important transition from education to work covering aspects of the selection and recruitment process. Students discover and develop the skills that are most valued by employers, assess their current strengths and developmental needs, reflect, and become more able to articulate their experiences clearly when talking to employers.

What's in the course?

The Diploma in Commerciality is the perfect course for those looking to enhance their career prospects and develop their business knowledge.

Using a structured framework, you will analyse case studies to see the ingredients that combine to make a successful business. You will also analyse the individuals that run the businesses to highlight the key commercial skills needed for success.

The course is interactive & experiential, you will develop your commercial skills and knowledge almost without realising it.

Towards the end of the course a personal diagnosis will be unlocked. This will include a breakdown of your key commercial strengths as well as areas for improvement. This will be used as a starting point to showcase your strengths in a C.V. builder and plan for further development to improve any weaknesses.

Course Outline

MODULE 1: Measuring & Developing your Commercial Skills
  • This module is all about creating a diagnostic that measures and benchmarks your commercial skills and knowledge.
  • You will complete a set of real world interactive simulations where you will analyse business pitches.
  • You will also answer a self-awareness questionnaire that focuses on your personal skills, both in your daily life and working environment, as well as focusing on how you work with other people.
  • There is also a multiple choice commercial awareness quiz that tests and measures your knowledge of business.
  • Once these tasks have been completed a personal skills diagnostic will be unlocked.
  • This is a highly comprehensive profile that analyses your skills and knowledge showing your strengths and weaknesses, as well as comparative perceptions and suggestions for development.
  • Using your new personal E-Portfolio and the diagnostic, you will create a personal development plan.
  • The aim of this is to identify where you would like to develop and create a plan to do so for each of your 9 skills.
MODULE 2: Expanding your Knowledge
  • Module 2 focuses on furthering your knowledge of business using a set of e-learning resources as well as video lectures from the University of Cambridge.
  • You will explore and learn through 6 learning topics that cover segmentation, marketing, competitive position, finance and HR.
  • As well as these topics we will focus on teaching the fundamentals of fast strategy. This is covered in greater depth in the video lectures.
  • A study log is provided that will track your progress through the E-Academy.
  • The interactive learning topics cover all the key information you will need in the form of questions with instant feedback, videos and case studies.
  • Further reading is offered to those that want to delve deeper into the theory that they have been taught.
MODULE 3: Advanced Learning
  • Using material that has been taught on the Executive MBA at the University of Cambridge, Module 3 is about using what has been taught in the E-Academy and applying it to two very advanced case studies.
  • Using the same simulation format that you have used in the previous modules, you will receive additional challenges as well as comprehensive due diligence packs to absorb.
  • These packs will help you to analyse the case studies you will receive. The case studies are still timed, so you will have to use your 9 Key Personal Skills to manage your time efficiently and analyse the data to help make the correct decision.
  • This module culminates with a final exam that tests you against everything that they have been taught throughout the course, focusing especially on the previous 2 modules.
MODULE 4: Applying the Knowledge you've Developed
  • This module is all about applying what has been learnt in the course to something that can be taken forward into your career.
  • You are encouraged to continue your personal development through the use of the E-Portfolio. You will be able to showcase your experience and commercial skills that you have developed into an easy to use C.V. builder.
  • This will act as a great foundation when preparing for employment. Access will be available to your E-Portfolio so that you can continue to use it to store evidence and develop your commercial skills.
  • As well as using your E-Portfolio, a toolkit will also be unlocked that will allow you to continue to use the structure of the key methodology that you have learnt throughout the course.
  • This is a valuable tool that will enable you to apply to your career once you have secured employment.
